Wallsend to Glendale Cycleway Set to Go

city cyclistsWork is progressing on the Wallsend to Glendale Tramway/Cycleway. Concrete pathways are being laid on the 1.3 million dollar project.

The State Government are providing half of the cost of building the project.

This is certainly a good thing for local people, great for the environment and appreciated by cyclists and pedestrians.

This is a great example of different levels of government departments working together to achieve a good outcome for the community.

The Wallsend to Glendale Tramway/Cycleway will be spread over 3 kilometers of off-road walkway-cycleway between the Newcastle Link road and Glendale TAFE.

The project is in partnership between the state government and both Newcastle and Lake Macquarie City Councils – The councils are each investing 25% of the project cost.

The cycleway is being built along a section of unused West Wallsend Tramway corridor between Wallsend and Glendale.

The project is being managed by Newcastle city council. They have carried out earthworks for the project over the past few months in preparation for laying concrete for the cycleway.

Newcastle City Council is finalising property arrangements, however the main property owners, Xstrata Coal has agreed for Council to start laying the pathway.

This is great news for cyclists. I’m buying a bike this weekend discounted online from Bike Buy.
